Mid-century modern dresser
One of my first big scores on Kauai was from a home in Anahola. I filled my Jeep Cherokee to the brim with furniture, roof racks included. I couldn't even close my back door. One of those pieces was this 8 drawer mid century dresser with gorgeous original knobs on it. This thing was a beast. I actually unloaded it by myself, as Ivy sat and watched (thinking I was crazy, I'm sure). Wait, more info is coming to my memory... I rolled it from my gravel driveway down to my work area. Yes, I rolled it. And Ivy didn't just sit and watch, I made her carry the drawers, one by one. There was no other way. Well, I could have waited for Kit to get home from work, but then I would have had to answer the question: "Where are we going to put all this furniture?!" It was easier for me to just take it off the roof of my car, etc., and roll it across the lawn. Much easier.

Mid-century dresser in mint condition
The insides of the drawers were in mint condition. They had all these great vintage markings.
It was hard to know what to do with the piece. It was basically covered in that orangy wood veneer, and the veneer was in terrible condition. I had to go with a look that wouldn't desire perfection. I filled in some of the chipped veneer with wood filler, and gave it a good sanding. I love it when my husband reminds me to wear a mask. He's so sweet.

I love the imperfections. Grey paint with a black wax. More minwax on top of that, made it extra durable. Aren't the crevices great?!

It sold to a family from Kekaha.
Another client dropped off a dresser tonight, (bigger than this one), for me to redo for their daughter. It's not mid century, but it is a gorgeous beast. Stay tuned for that before and after!
